As strong winds, heavy rain, thunder and lightning caused havoc throughout the region of Friday night the atrocious weather also caused the late evening Ryanair flight from Glasgow to San Javier Murcia to be diverted to Alicante.
On landing at Alicante (at around 9pm) passengers were informed that the flight would be refuelled and once the weather had cleared, the flight would continue. At this point a number of passengers asked to disembark immediately but their request was refused. The flight was ready for takeoff by 10pm but some passengers continued to refuse to fly. It would appear that matters got so bad that local Police had to be called and at least three passengers were removed from the airplane and arrested.
As it was necessary for the luggage of these three individuals to also be taken off the plane, all luggage for all other passengers also had to be removed and the decision was then taken to transport all remaining passengers to Murcia by coach. By 12 midnight, the unfortunate passengers were still awaiting their coach.
