Anyone now caught in the act is liable to a fine of 150 euros
During the first six months of the year Almeria’s Local Police have collected 4650 euros in fines from members of the public caught urinating in the street. This amounts to 3 times the amount collected during the same period last year.
The vast majority of offenders were caught in the area around la plaza del Educador, Puerta Purchena and las 'Cuatro Calles' where residents say the constant smell of urine is disgusting.
One individual told us that he is fed up of members of the public using the area as a latrine. A police spokesman said said they relieve themselves anywhere that takes their fancy with no regard whatsoever of those people who live locally. It can be up against somebody’s house, in doorways, arcades, plaza’s, anywhere in fact that is convenient to them.
Neither do they seem to have any regard for other people who might be passing, often not even having the common decency to turn away.
The spokesman said that anyone now caught in the act is liable to a fine of 150 euros. Indeed a number of offenders who have appeared before magistrates have recently been ordered to return to the area with buckets of bleach and water to clean up the mess they have caused.
